First Goat Show

Went to our first goat show this past weekend and it was much fun. We did quite well and learned alot about what makes a goats fleece desirable. We also met some nice folks, saw some amazing craftspeople and breathed in ALOT of dust. We also sold our first goats and saw the first real influx of cash. Recieving cash is much better than the alternative I've discovered. All in all a great weekend and I hope we can do it again next year.

Next Up? Travel Lit Picture Book

I've started writing a children's picture book and I am having a ball. It's something I've long wanted to try and a good friend of mine has been trying to get into the "biz" for awhile so is acting as my mentor and editor. I'm on my second draft and have started haunting children's book message boards and will be submitting my manuscript to a critique group when I feel it's good enough for "stranger" consumption. The concept is very embryonic but it will be travel literature for kids 3 - 8 and of course, a goat plays a leading role. I would love to make it a pop up book, but that's far down the road.

Baby chicks arrive

25 baby chicks arrived in the mail yesterday.  As many times as I've done it, it's still pretty cool to get a call from the post office at 6 AM telling you to come and get your chirping box.  The little ones will stay in our brooder for eight weeks until they can be moved into the coop with the big girls.  They should be laying by spring.  Taking names now for next years egg recipients....
